How to React When Everything Goes Wrong

Every now and then you will surely find someone who is more superior to you in all aspects. It may be a single player or a pair, in circumstances like these, your mindset and perception plays a huge role in deciding how the game is won and lost.

If he or she or they may be superior in all aspects of the game, it does not mean they can easily win on you, and on some other case that doesn’t mean that they will win at all, if you happen to be in this situation there’s a huge amount to learn like how to be a well-rounded badminton player and absolutely nothing to lose and no pressure should be on your shoulders.

So yeah you are doomed. But here are the things that you need to do to be able to keep up or to be able to reach your opponent level so that the next time you meet you’ll surprise him/her or even defeat them.

1. Make your opponent play rather than accepting defeat and handing them the point on a plate work hard and keep that shuttle in the court.

2. Make the element of surprise your best friend always try to add some confusion into the game. This can be flick serving, flick from the net, playing a lift when you could have played a safer shot. Make yourself unpredictable or fool him by letting your opponent know that it is your weak side but it is your stronger side actually.

3. Always change the pace, be ready to change everything like fast or slow, focus your attention down one side of the court or on one opponent more so than the other and look for the gap.

4. Take risk throw a few high risk moves into the rally like your opponent plays a really tight net shot and you try to kill it on the net. A high risk but can be mentally off-putting your opponent.

5. Use veteran moves like when the opponent is not yet ready to receive the serve these can be associated or verging on cheating but it can give you an advantage and some may disagree, especially some pros who use these tactics frequently.

Know that you are also capable of winning so don’t be too hard on yourself. Understand and study what is your difference, have your opponents focused their attention on one player in a pair or in one particular area on court.

When in doubles, always go back to the badminton basics. Embrace your strongest formation and your opponent’s weakest formation and use that as an advantage. In doubles if you were move out on your strongest formation or if your opponent is pressuring you into mistakes always tell your partner so that you can have a resolution to adjust and win the game.

Always pay attention to the shot that you are giving your opponent if they are finding ways to get into their strongest formation you should try something different or opposite to what you’re currently doing.

Lastly if the play is getting too fast and tight around the net and it drains you down to your core, then quickly switch the play to the rear part of the court, especially lifting deep into the corners it will give you some time to breath and be ready for the next strike. Sometimes a player or pair are very good at moving forward and pressuring so you need to also be ready when you face someone like that. Getting the shuttle behind them consistently can be a great tactic. It will force the player back and causes sufficient doubt to make them hesitate moving forwards.
